Basic Stable History:
Years ago, when I was about 3, my great-uncle took me with him when he went shopping for some tack for his rodeo  horses. I came home with my first Breyer horse, and have been collecting pretty much ever since. In case you haven't guessed, I'm talking about toy horses here. Starwood Stables is all about plastic and paper ponies.
The Starwood Stables name showed up in somewhere in the mid-1970's--a carefully filled-out pocket-sized notebook shows the names, ages, colors and breeds of all the Breyers I had collected up to that time and is dated 1976. Most of those horses are still with me today, thanks to Grandma's attic...
Today, Starwood Stables consists primarily of paper ponies--fantasy horse racing with The Express and MTRA--and consists mainly of thoroughbreds, with a number of appaloosas, quarter horses, arabs and paints.
There are even some new models accumulated since Starwood returned to the model horse world in January of 2001, but no plans to re-enter the show ring. Instead, after being gone since college, I found myself joining the Express in January, and then rejoining the MRF in about May, and later the MTRA. Racing in the MRF was suspended after I had surgery on my neck, just not enough time in the day for two programs, volunteer work and my job, but the stables were maintained, and today the MTRA fills the void nicely. I had a lot of fun in the BHS, and then the MRF, and sometimes it's hard looking back, old names are gone, the original racing and breeding stock was sold when I started college and almost 16 years later, to someone who promised to keep me updated. I don't even recall her name: she disappeared right afterwards, apparently. It's been fun getting started again.
Who Am I?
I'm currently the webmaster and a general assignment reporter for the Atlantic News Telegraph, Atlantic, IA. I finally get to write on a daily basis, after more than 16 years in retail. I'm was 2003-2004 President of the local Atlantic Kiwanis Club, and I'll be president again in October... I am a board member for the Coca-Cola Museum and Center, their publicity co-chair and secretary, and probably a member of at least one other committee I can't remember at the moment.   When I'm not taking pictures, attending meetings, tracking down a story, or working on a project, I'm probably cleaning the cat litter, teaching the birds a new word, or trying to catch the dog to brush her...
And then of course, there's all the time I spend on line trying to keep all these horses at their best, wish me luck.
