| Now, it occurs to me that that very headline could be an oxymoron. BUT... In case you'd like to know. Starwood, formed back years ago in the 70;s, had racing stables in Wisconsin, Minnesota, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany and Australia. After Starwood "main" was sold, I like to think that the other stables were leased out, as there were always intentions of coming back, when there was capital and time. I just didn't think I'd be making that come back from a little city in the middle of a lot of rolling cornfields, almost smack dab in the middle of the country. Starwood today is made up of Starwood Stables (main) located in Atlantic, Iowa with branch farms near Oakland and Avoca, IA. Properties in Northern California and Texas were explored and purchased. Interphaze Arabians in California, is the home base for Starwood's racing and show arabians, and a property on Canyon Lake, Texas is home for Gateway Paints and Timepiece QHs...Initially all horses were housed in Iowa, but as of March 2002, the Texas and California offices are open and operating. When the decision to reopen Starwood was made, contact with the European branches was reopened as well. The Italian farm will remain in the hands of it's current rentor, as they have a 25 year contract... It is doubted that Starwood will look for other properties in that area. Express racing lead to opening training stables, branches of Interphaze Arabians, in Egypt, Russia, and Poland. In September of 2001, due to unrest in the middle east, Starwood opted to move horses and staff located in Egypt to Europe. The French farm, Ille de Cheval, was reacquired. It currently is home to a handful of TB broodmares, as well as European racing TBs and arabians. This was chosen to be the temporary home of Starwood's Interphaze/Egypt horses and staff. The English and Irish branches of the stable were being leased, and were quickly reacquired and back into operation. In England, Starwood is represented by Sherwood Stud, with Ealdwood Stud in Ireland. Urvald in Germany is being readied for use in the future. Plans for an opening in Summer of 2003 include the addition of hunter/jumper training facilities, and thoroughbred breeding/racing facilities. The Minnesota and Wisconsin farms (Northwood and Starwood/Wisc.) were sold outright when the racing stable changed hands. Starwood Stables is a full-service training, racing and breeding establishment, handling Appaloosas, TBs, and STBs in Iowa; QHs and Paints in Texas; Arabs in California, Russia, Poland and France; and TBs in Ireland, England, France and Germany, with negotiations on the tables for acquiring property in New Zealand. |
